JOHN E. THOMPSON

After turning down a lucrative boxing career to study art, Thompson moved to Colorado to bring a refined artistic training to the rugged and still-wild west.  The outcome was a spectacular blend of skill and visionary composition.  In 1917 Thompson brought two of his students, Walter Mruk and Jozef Bakos, with him West, and the two eventually helped co-found the Santa Fe group Los Cinco Pintores.
